How do I get a Research Library OpenAthens account?

PATRONS WHO CURRENTLY HAVE OFFSITE DATABASE ACCESS PRIVILEGES
i.e., MCU Faculty, Staff, Library Staff, USMC-Affiliated Researchers, DoD Contractors, MCU, CMC, and other scholars/fellows
- The Library will create your OA account for you as part of our implementation project.
- When the account is created, you'll receive a notification email containing your account number and a generic password.
- You'll need to change the password for your new OA account.
- NOTE: This does NOT change the password on your Research Library account.
NEW LIBRARY ACCOUNTS, and DIGITAL-ONLY ACCOUNTS CREATED AFTER 15 JULY 2025
Note: Starting 1 July 2025, access to e-resources will be available to all Research Library patrons regardless of patron category. This does not apply to Quantico Base Library accounts.
Brand-new accounts. When signing up for a regular Research Library account, the confirmation email will contain a link to create an OA account. Patrons can do that or chose not to.
New digital-only accounts. Patrons can request a digital-only account and if approved, will be sent an email containing a link and signup instructions. Direct all questions for this account type to Virtual Branch only.
Existing accounts for active duty & family, retiree & family, civilian on base, interns. Patrons with existing accounts in good standing will receive information and a link to create an OA account. The Library will not create one for you.
Student accounts. New FY25-26 student accounts will be created by Virtual Branch up until the cutoff date. This applies to both OA and the regular library account.
