What is OpenAthens and Why do I Need an Account?

Answer

OpenAthens is the "sentry at the gate" that allows authorized users to access the MCU Research Library’s paid electronic resources such as databases, eBooks, and eJournals.

If you are eligible for remote access (i.e., MCU faculty, students, staff, and affiliated researchers) then you will need an OpenAthens account to access subscription content offsite.

If you have n .EDU laptop, you can connect to the internet using the .EDU VPN (the VPN is considered "onsite" access). Then, access subscription content via Library databases or links in the library catalog. If you need more information about the .EDU VPN, contact the MCU IT HelpDesk.
